Lessons From The Edge
What BASE Jumping Taught Me About Bussiness & Performing Under Pressure
In BASE jumping, there are no second chances. You either prepare properly and commit, or you are in serious trouble. Business won’t kill you but the dynamics are remarkably similar.
Pressure exposes preparation. Fear interferes with decision-making. Ego clouds judgment and hesitation at the wrong moment can be costly.
After more than 25 years jumping from antennas and cliffs around the world and building businesses from scratch, I started noticing something. The patterns that determine whether a BASE jump succeeds or fails show up in business just as consistently. Not as dramatic, but often just as consequential.
Lessons From The Edge brings those patterns together. 50 lessons on decision-making, fear, execution and leadership under pressure. Each one starts with a real BASE jumping story and moves into the boardroom, the sales floor and the leadership situations where the same dynamics play out every day.
This is not a theory book. It is a field guide for leaders, entrepreneurs, sales professionals and anyone who carries responsibility, makes difficult calls and lives with the consequences.
The environments are different. The principles are not.

Book Reviews
There are some books that are particularly satisfying to see make it out into the world. Lessons From The Edge by Jurgen Mennel is one of them. I first coached Jürgen to write his book about 15 years ago. Life, business and a whole lot of adventures happened in between but he never completely let go of the idea. And now, all these years later, here it is. And what a story he has to tell. Jürgen has spent more than 25 years BASE jumping from cliffs and antennas around the world, as well as building and running businesses. In Lessons From The Edge, he brings those two worlds together in 50 lessons about decision-making, fear, execution, leadership and performing under pressure. There is something wonderfully appropriate about a book like this taking 15 years to arrive. Sometimes the book we originally set out to write isn’t actually the book we’re eventually meant to write. We need to live a little more of the story first. I want to give Jürgen a big shout-out here.
Congratulations, Jürgen. Fifteen years in the making, but you got there, my friend. – Andrew Griffiths | Australia´s Number One Business Author | www.andrewgriffiths.com.au
I had the privilege of reading an advance copy and I was completely captivated. From the very first pages, the book pulled me in and never let go; I ended up reading it cover to cover in one sitting. Its relevance to the business world is striking and immediately clear. The most powerful chapter dives deep into the question of “why.” Once you truly understand why you do something, the path to how unfolds naturally—and suddenly, everything clicks into place.
This book is not just insightful, it’s genuinely inspiring. A true masterpiece—highly recommended to anyone looking for clarity, purpose, and a fresh perspective. – Marco Büchel | Ski-Expert & TV Presenter | www.marco-buechel.li/de/
As Jurgen’s coach and NLP trainer, I approached Lessons From the Edge thinking I wouldn’t learn much, after all, I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 30 years. How wrong I was! This book is a must-read for any entrepreneur aiming higher. Jurgen’s years of base-jumping experience translate into lessons that will thrill you, challenge you, and give you exactly what you need to take the next step. Lessons From the Edge delivers 50 powerful insights that can truly take you to the top. — Rik Schnabel | Australia’s Brain Untrainer | www.lifebeyondlimits.com.au
Jürgen Mennel is one of those rare people you meet and instantly respect. I met Jürgen at a Tony Robbins conference in Fiji, and from the beginning I admired not only his business acumen, but also his genuine thirst for life. In Lessons from the Edge, he brilliantly uses his love of base jumping as a framework to share lessons that reach far beyond the jump itself. The way he connects risk, courage, perspective, and personal growth to both business and life is powerful. Watching Jürgen step out of a helicopter onto a tiny ledge with a massive smile on his face has reminded me more than once that the challenges we fear are often much smaller than they seem. This book captures that spirit beautifully. It is inspiring, honest, and a powerful reminder that life rewards those willing to take the next step. – Shane Anderson | Build a Smarter, Faster, More Modern Business | www.highpeekpro.com
