2. What we collect, and why

Just by visiting this site:
Our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, date/time) for security and to keep the site running. This is a legitimate interest under GDPR Art. 6(1)(f) — we don’t use it to identify you personally. It’s kept only as long as our hosting provider’s standard security practices require, and no longer than necessary for that purpose.

If you contact us directly (email, contact form):
We collect whatever you send us (name, email, message) solely to reply to you. Legal basis: GDPR Art. 6(1)(b), taking steps prior to/performing a contract, or Art. 6(1)(f) legitimate interest in responding to inquiries.

If you sign up for the mailing list:
That’s handled separately — you’ll see a clear consent checkbox at signup naming Mailchimp as the processor, and you can unsubscribe anytime. We don’t collect or store that data outside of what Mailchimp processes on our behalf. See our note in section 6 below.

We do not collect payment data, sensitive personal data (health, religion, etc.), or data about children directly through this site.

3. Cookies

We use essential cookies needed for the site to function, and analytics cookies to understand how visitors use this site.

Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to see how visitors find and use our site (e.g. which pages are popular, how people arrived here). Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data, which may include your IP address (shortened/anonymized), browser and device information, and pages visited. This data is processed by Google, which may transfer it to servers outside Switzerland/the EU, including the US, under appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).

Where required by law (e.g. for EU/EEA and Swiss visitors), Google Analytics cookies will only be activated after you give consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time through that same banner or your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking generally using Google’s browser add-on.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; this may affect how parts of the site work.

4. Who we share data with

We only share data with service providers who help us run this site or communicate with you:

Hosting provider: Hostgator
Mailing list: Mailchimp (if you opt in)
Analytics: Google Analytics (only after you consent, where required)

We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising or marketing by third parties.

If any of these providers are based outside Switzerland/EU (e.g. in the US), appropriate safeguards apply (such as Standard Contractual Clauses), as required by GDPR and the Swiss FADP.

5. How long we keep data

Server logs: kept only as long as necessary for security purposes, per our hosting provider’s standard practices
Contact form messages: kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry, then deleted, unless we’re required to keep it longer by law
Mailing list data: kept until you unsubscribe
Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics’ standard settings, or a shorter period we configure

6. Mailing list (Mailchimp)

If you sign up for updates, your name and email are stored by Mailchimp, our email service provider. You’ll always see a separate consent checkbox at the point of signup, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. See Mailchimp’s own privacy policy for how they process your data on our behalf.

7. Your rights

Wherever you’re located, you have the right to:

Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy (free of charge for the first request)
Ask us to correct inaccurate data
Ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
Ask us to restrict how we use your data
Object to our use of your data
Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe from our mailing list)
If you’re in the EU/EEA or Switzerland, lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our website’s Contact page. We’ll respond within 30 days.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we work to keep this site and any data we hold as safe as possible.

9. Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
